VHOLUME Beginner Guide: Tips for Your First Hours

Before Your First Run

  1. Settings first. Two minutes in the options menu saves your stomach and your times: check the camera-comfort options and motion blur, and pick controller or keyboard deliberately — both are fully supported. Details in controls & settings.
  2. Know what you’re playing. VHOLUME is a story-paced parkour game, not a pure racer. You play Robert, crossing a brutalist capital to restore your family’s revoked ration tickets; the melancholy is the point. Let the first playthrough be slow.

Your First Playthrough

  • Play the campaign in order. The 31 main levels teach movement progressively — racetrack00 is literally a practice track.
  • Talk to everyone you see. NPCs are sparse and missable, two achievements depend on them, and three levels (admin, openoffice00, openoffice01) require conversations to finish. The full census is in NPC locations.
  • Grab shiny things when you spot them. Every level hides a collectable that unlocks its B-Side — no need to hunt systematically yet, but never walk past one.
  • Ignore medal times for now. The bronze/silver/gold ladder is the endgame loop; chasing it on first sight of a level teaches bad routes.

Beginner Mistakes That Kill Momentum

  • Stopping on landings. Land into a slide, not onto flat feet — this single habit is most of the movement guide.
  • Climbing everything. Most walls have a faster route around or over via slopes; climb is the fallback, not the default.
  • Fighting the camera. Air control follows your look direction — smooth camera, smooth run.

After the Credits

The credits roll (a 10-second level, and yes it has an author time) is where VHOLUME’s second game begins:

  1. Medal ladder — bronze → silver → gold per level, tracked by achievements.
  2. B-Side hunt — 31 collectables unlocking 31 remix stages.
  3. The completionist layer — every NPC, every secret, five hidden achievements.
  4. The community layerspeedrunning, multiplayer ghosts and Workshop levels.
